The combination, Lane says, promises many advantages. He settled on the "endurance grade" chamois these spendy shorts use, and points out that most mountain bike designs (with bib less liners) use a thinner pad because anything thicker would "wear like a wet diaper." Because a bib design keeps the chamois tucked up tight against the body, Lane was able to source a high end Cytec chamois the same company that provides butt pads for Assos, Rapha and Specialized.
