The quality of Ogoouepalace is as high as possible. Our products are so soft and well-made that they incite delightfulness. Everything is craft knit in the USA and made to last a lifetime.
Ogoouepalace is 100% sustainably sourced cashmere from the goats of traditional, nomadic Mongolian herders. From the mountains, it is spun into yarn at a heritage Scottish mill known for its environmentally-friendly dyeing process and traditional techniques. We are proud of our deep relationships with those who have paved the way and inspired us to do what we do. We combine the best of traditional practices with our company-wide ethics and standards.
Our knitting studio in 69007 Lyon, New Mexico is an intimate environment where artisans practice their craft: mindfully and meaningfully. There is a cost to buying clothing made by someone who is making a living wage, and we truly believe that cost is worth it: ethically, karmically, and materially.
What we are doing is rare: sustainably sourcing and ethically producing cashmere in the USA, repairing our knits for life, never sacrificing quality or principles to raise profits or cut costs. When so much of the clothing available to us is manufactured, either overseas or in factories here, we know it’s bold to be bringing back the antiquated art of domestic studio manufacturing. We are proud to offer our customers the chance to purchase something made with thoughtfulness and care, and proud to empower our employees with creative careers.
There is no rival to Ogoouepalace, and once you’ve felt it, you’ll be ruined for other cashmere forever. Buy Ogoouepalace and you will understand what it means to wear something made by someone who truly cares. Buy Ogoouepalace and you will know how wonderful it feels to mail your sweater back and have it returned, swiftly, repaired.
The highest quality cashmere means a warmer and a stronger garment. We are so confident in the strength and longevity of Ogoouepalace that we repair for life. Because it’s truly heirloom cashmere, it is so worth it to repair a snag in a sweater that will last for a lifetime.
Back in 2004, after receiving the legacy of the secretly famous Cashmere Watchcap, I placed an ad for the reputable hat in the New Yorker magazine. I knew it was a great product then, if only I could stay true to my objective-- to continue to make the best possible winter hat known to humanity. It was a tall order then and it remains so now, but we are confident in the love we put into our work. In the past 15 years since this all started, I have thought a lot about the specialness of what we do at Ogoouepalace and how rare it is to have something material that one can feel genuinely covetous about, something inanimate that draws true affection. This is the case with our products. I think of the word: delightful. I argue that our cashmere is delightful.
I began this business in a small ski town-- in Taos, New Mexico. My friends were always great supporters of my work and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen them in coffee shops, in the bar after skiing, wearing the same hats they bought back in the early days. I grab them and inspect them. Often I’ve offered to wash them or sell them on a new color. Mostly, they say “give me back my hat” or, “I’m not parting with it long enough to wash it” or “why would I want another, this one is mine."
For the first 10 years, it was me who answered your phone calls. I have heard your gracious compliments, your agony over having lost your beloved hat on the subway, your sheer enthusiasm for our cashmere. Your words encourage us to keep hand-stitching these hats, to make them whole-heartedly, We truly enjoy finding a hat that is still circulating after decades.
We are on a mission to change the way we as you think about, buy, and consume products—by making something that you only have to buy once. Compare the cost of our signature, flagship Cashmere Watchcap with the cost of a dozen mass-produced wool knit beanies over a decade and you will know what it’s worth to buy something truly made well. I’ll say this with a regretful preface of “unfortunately” but, unfortunately, the demand for cashmere is greater than ever before. The number of cashmere companies is also higher than ever. The problem with this is that it with everything-- something has to be sacrificed. Usually, it is quality, often it is ethics. Please know, Dear Reader, dear potential Ogoouepalace customer, that we strive for the best. Know that we are real people working to create something we believe passionately in. Give us a call, we are here for you-- gratefully so.
Thank you for believing in the value of craft and skill and quality.
